Based on true events, KINKY BOOTS tells the story of Charlie Price, who inherits his father's ailing British shoe factory WJ Brooks. The factory is about to close when he meets the dazzling drag queen Lola by chance. An extraordinary friendship develops - and a daring business idea to save the company: High heels for strong personalities - a new line of shoes especially for drag queens, travesty artists and cross-dressers who need particularly sturdy footwear that is also fashionable. Cyndi Lauper was already looking back on a long global career when she was asked if she would write songs for a musical for the first time - and for a musical about a shoe factory in the English countryside that makes shoes for drag queens.
